1ST HONORIFIC MENTION / International Architecture Competition

Caracas, VE

Located in the geographic center of Caracas, in the Plaza Central of the Plaza Venezuela Rental Zone and literally mounted on the bases of Villanueva, the proposal for the Center for Art and Entertainment (CENAE) was born as a reflection that tells the DIACRONIC and SYNCHRONIC reading of the place. Proposing dialogue and reinterpretation of modern architecture, inserted in the current metropolis and taking into account two fundamental aspects: History and Place.

- The place_ its privileged location at the point of convergence of different points of the city, dissimilar landscapes mixed randomly, the Ávila, the Botanical Garden as spots of natural landscape that merge and merge into the forest of urbanity, generating a vision between lines of its immediate context. Added to this, the people, the cacophony that echoes in everyday events, the different speeds that generate a series of determinants or inescapable references. The proposal is seen, then, as a piece that contributes to the landscape by summation, that does not break it, acts as a umlaut that only suggests a change of intonation. The piece that is landscape itself, a fragment stacked as part of the new urban landscape.

- The History_ as a generating base, which dictates the initial guidelines but which does not adapt to the image that its context requires; area of great potential for a future evolution of the urban image. A building planted on another, one time on another, yesterday seen as today. Then we go to analyze the morphology of the building to create.

An outbreak of reinvented modernity that turns out to be a hybrid, the morphology of the modern with the incidence of the context. The free floor with breaks and textures of light that break the plain, the pilotis that become more slender and that some are projected as light, where the pedestrian is still involved with the building. The plates are perforated and the volumes are contained but only partially, they become transparent as a projection of the base building, they become extroverted, leaving aside the negation of the context.

The monolithic piece is transformed into layers and suspended volumes with intercalation of voids as the line spacing of its context, each layer as a landscape, with its characteristics contained within the separated parts, stratification that allows to expand the spatial configuration of the building.

The proposed use seems the most suitable for that PLACE with that HISTORY. Art as the voice of contemporary extroversion and entertainment as the basis of Latin American culture. Dissimilar landscapes dis-content layers contained and disconnected at the same time, whose intention is to house everyday life.
